They would have wanted to wake up!

He held his breath
Choking but he tried
They need not know
the inside of his heart
He held it back
No it should not go to his head
Tried as he might to understand
He couldn’t

They went against
agreed conventions
Only that he knew

There were no fighters seen
They were not fighters
These were civilians
Just kids barely into their teens
Or just babies who cried when smacked
But instead bombs rained on them
They never knew what hit them

They would have wanted to wake up
It was a dream, a psychedelic dream
With lots of brilliant colors explosions and heat

"Make it a dream and wake up
Open your eyes it is just a dream
A psychedelic dream"

No they could not!
Others could not make them
Others could not make them out either
They were there
They were among the debris
No they were the debris
Together with human  parts strewn of their
parents, grandparents and neighbors
They would have wanted to wake up
if it was a dream

  4. This is one of your most powerful poems that I have read so far, Hank - ardent and intense, heartrending and anguished, sensitive and emotive. Wonderful writing!

  6. pretty sad the collaterral damage...kept thinking of the downed airline....and those that are not fighters that are forced into having to, just to survive

  7. That one really hits an emotional nerve. Especially the part about the bodies being the debris.

  10. SO TRUE..and..so sad..a nightmare is true..a dream of peace..

    is so so far away..

    The gods are devils
    and
    the
    devils
    are
    man!
    and
    yes
    sometimes
    wo
    mEn
    too!
    but the cure to this..
    is simply
    human being
    ONE
    unconditional
    sacred
    GOLDEN
    RULE
    OF
    LOVE
    FOR
    ALL
    TRUE
    ONCE
    AGAIN!
    BEFORE
    THE
    'APPLE'
    OF
    SEPARATION!
    living
    oNE
    WITH
    NATURE
    IN
    THE
    HEAVEN
    OF
    NOW!
    TRUE
    2
    ONCE AGAIN
    AN OLD WORLD ORDER
    IS
    NEW!
