Don't Play Mickey with me !

Was originally christened by Walt
as Mortimer Mouse
But his wife Lilian thought
Mickey was more appropriate
Following his visit however
to Warner Brothers studios
Mickey Rooney claimed
Walt had named it after him

Mickey Mouse was not alone
He had friends around
There’s Minnie Mouse
his girlfriend, Pluto
his dog Donald Duck and Goofy
And he is an official mascot
since 1955 of Disney

A runaway success Mickey
received nine Academy
nominations. What’s more on
his 50th anniversary
in 1978 he even had a star dedicated
to him at the Hollywood Walk of Fame

A life with cartoons is such a joy
and one with Mickey is so therapeutic
What if there was no Mickey
And there is no Disney
Youngsters will not be saying
‘Don’t play Mickey with me!’

  1. I enjoyed your photos, Hank. Some day I would like to get to Disneyland! Ya, I found it interesting that Mickey Mouse was Mortimer at first...glad Walt straightened THAT out. Enjoyed the Disney history you provided. So much joy began with only a humble mouse! (I bought a Minnie Mouse t-shirt in Disneyworld...LOL.)

    1. Thanks Mary! Disney World, Florida offers more within their complex. Disneyland is only the Magic Kingdom all told but there are a host of other great attractions at the Epcot Center. But being at either had been such a treat - heavenly.

  5. Mickey doesn't seem to be around as much today, but his legacy never fades, Mortimer is just a bad name

  6. What nice pictures Hank. I love going to Disney. Can't wait to go with my grandchildren.
Thanks for the info on Mickey. What a rich life for a cartoon character. He's brought so much joy. I'm grateful to Walt Disney's imagination.

  7. Great pictures and verse hank, I love the story of Mortimer (and the old films were great)... Here in Sweden Donald Duck is the bigger of them though...

  8. Even though I literally grew up with Mickey Mouse, I can't remember ever hearing the story about his name. How fun.
